About the Gallery

The Burdick Art Gallery is celebrating fifty years in Wellfleet, ‘The Art Gallery Town’. A quieter cousin of neighboring Provincetown’s bustling art community, this Outer Cape village hosts over a dozen galleries within easy walking distance in the town center, where Charles Burdick opened his first gallery in 1967. Ten years ago his daughter Kate bought the carriage house at Bank Square, moving the Burdick Art Gallery to 25 Bank Street where it is directed by her sister Margaret.

The sisters currently show the work of the Burdick family, including watercolors by their mother Joanne, by Margaret and by Charles, as well as his acrylic paintings. They also display the oil paintings of local artists F. S. Morgan, J. Kent Planck and Lee Ann Fanning and acrylic paintings by Carl W. Lawson. The gallery showcases John Best’s art glass boxes, windows and stands and his wife Elizabeth’s jewelry.

After a lifetime spent creating and selling his work, Charles died last December at 92. During a special commemorative show on exhibit at the Burdick Art Gallery from July 1 – 21, his wife, family, and friends will celebrate that life with an open reception held on Saturday, July 8 from 6 to 8:00. More information and further events will be available on the website burdickartgallery.com.
